Lolo Generito U. Yusores’ story is quickly going viral as he shows netizens that it’s never too late to aspire for our dreams. Can you imagine that at his age of 64 he still manages to finish his studies. He graduated from Western Mindanao State University External Studies Unit-Molave, Zamboanga del Sur Campus with the course of Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English.

Mang Generito works hard to achieve his dream of being a teacher. He is a tricycle drive by day and a college student at night.

His past was his inspiration to finish his college degree. Way back ago, Mang Generito was an example of a student who took everything for granted. During his youth, his parents enrolled him at no less than the Ateneo de Cagayan for a course in BS Agriculture. But alcohol and peer groups took his focus away from school. The ‘bulakbol’ student eventually lost the support of his parents.

Mang Generito shared to Molave how hard is it to be a tricycle driver and as part for it he really promised himself that he will go back to school and finish it to find a better job. He also mentioned that he envied his former classmates with good jobs while he doesn’t have a decent income.

The determined student was met with criticisms; most of which targeting his age as being too old to become a teacher. He said naysayers told him, “Taas na ang lubi” [the coconut tree is already too high]; implying that his dreams are way too high to reach.

But Mang Generito didn’t mind of those criticisms, instead he really strive harder. He proved them all wrong when he was granted a scholarship under the WMSU-ESU Molave. And now, the proud graduate wears his graduation toga as he lined up with other 1,397 graduates to receive their college diploma.

This story is indeed an inspiration to many. Congratulations, Lolo Generito!
