Showing Of “Avengers: Engdame” With Chinese Subtitles Gain Different Reactions From The Netizens

Avengers: Endgame started showing yesterday, April 24, 2019 in all cinemas here in the Philippines. Many fans really lined up just to watch the movie firsthand because of excitement and to avoid spoilers.

Yet some fans are asking a refund from cinemas screening ‘Avengers: Endgame’ with Chinese subtitles.

Several fans have expressed their frustration over a cinema’s announcement that several screenings of the movie ‘Avengers: Endgame’ will have Chinese subtitles.

According to the netizens who experiences the Chinese subtitles, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’s announcement that the much-anticipated Marvel movie will be screened with Chinese subtitles didn’t sit too well with netizens and moviegoers.

Several fans who booked tickets in advance were frustrated because they were not informed it will be shown with subtitles; much more in Chinese language.

As part of what happened, many netizens thought that Chinese are being given a special treatment in our country especially in the cinemas connected to Megaworld Lifestyle Malls. Here are the following comments and frustrations from the netizens who booked a ticket in advance:

“As if Chinese-speaking ang majority of the populace in the Philippines…este, Southwoods?! Special treatment, ha?”

“Why do you have to sell tickets without informing first the consumers that there will be Chinese subtitles in the movie? With this, I have all the rights to refund my tickets! #notochinesesubtitles”

On the other hand, some netizens also suggested that if this case will not happen why not put a Filipino subtitle on it since we are all here in the Philippines. They also mentioned that they should not prioritize Chinese subtitles.

Meanwhile, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls is adamant with their stand and said they “embrace and promote cultural diversity and has always welcomed all kinds of people from all walks of life regardless of gender, ethnicity and country of origin.”

They continued that movies with subtitles isn’t something new “as it allows better appreciation to non-English moviegoers.”

The company said they are willing to refund booked tickets. Special screening of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ with Chinese subtitles will be showing in select cinemas from April 24-28.
