Dogs are pack animals, meaning they are social creatures who prefer the company of other animals. This is one reason why loyalty is a natural behavior in canines. Many trainers and dog owners believe that this kind of “pack mentality” makes dogs naturally loyal to their human families. One story that continues to touch the hearts of many is that of “Hachiko”, a Japanese Akita dog from who continued to wait for his owner after so many years.
Pinoy Hachiko ‘Buboy’
In the Philippines, a similar story touched the hearts of many Filipinos after it went viral on social media. In the video, the dog named “Buboy” can be seen at the wake of his owner in Mabalacat, Pampanga. The dog refused to leave his owner, Carmelito Marcelo, who was laid to rest after a few days. Apparently, Carmelito took Buboy in back in 2016.
Carmelito was a professor at the City College in Mabalacat, and would bring Buboy everywhere he went, including his classes. They were inseparable. Sadly, Carmelito died from a heart attack on May 17 of this year, leaving Buboy alone for the first time in years. Buboy was obviously missing his owner as seen in the video.
And on June, Buboy was sadly run over by a vehicle and died on the spot. Many netizens were saddened by the news, especially when some netizens claimed that the dog was neglected. However, some people were glad that Buboy is now at least reunited with his owner.
